The Leeds-based survivor-led and run charity, which offers local, regional, national and international support around self-harm, aims to break down stigma, raise awareness, dispel myths and support those affected by self-harm irrelevant of gender, age, background or location.

This month it has announced:

  • An expansion of one of its services for adults, allowing it to reach more people;
  • The launch of a special workbook for young people who self-harm; and
  • The opportunity to create a new mental health hub in South Leeds which will house the charity’s new premises.

It is the charity’s ‘FRESH’ service which will now be expanding – from being initially just for adults who self-harm based in Leeds, to now being offered to adults living across the whole of West Yorkshire.

The FRESH service offers a one-off phone call with a peer for an opportunity to gain a fresh perspective to help manage self-harm – whether it is first contact or already familiar with the charity’s other services.

Battle Scars has also revealed the publication of a new ‘Discovery Journal’ – a free workbook for 10-17-year-olds to want “build healthier tools” help to manage their self-harm.

Instructions on how to order are on the website and it must be ordered by the young person. A PDF copy is also available to download.

And in further news, the charity is also looking to set up an ‘Onward Mental Health Hub’ in South Leeds which will house its new premises, with a wide range of face-to-face services running within it, such as peer support groups, activity groups, workshops for children and support for parents.

The rest of the building has various sized spaces for leases of up to five years as well as an array of rooms for hire.

The charity is looking for partners, working in mental health or wellbeing, to come into the building.

Battle Scars also want to hear from people who may use the hub or have an interest in mental health and would like to share their views about what is on offer within the building - through face-to-face consultation events (booking required), a virtual event on June 29th or via an online form.
