National charity Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) hosted a webinar in October, the Alex Maish Memorial Lecture 2023, on 'Essential knowledge for preventing maternal suicide' and a recording is now online, aimed at GPs, midwives, antenatal educators, health visitors and frontline health professionals working with families in the perinatal period.

Suicide is the leading cause of maternal death in the UK and rates are increasing nationally.

The webinar highlights the early symptoms of postpartum psychosis (PP) and actions which can be taken to support and protect those who develop the condition.

It covers basic information all expectant families should know about PP and the information and support needs of those at higher risk.

The webinar also includes a Q&A session with clinical, academic and lived experience speakers.

It was produced in collaboration with the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH), General Practitioners Championing Perinatal Care (GPCPC) and the International Journal of Birth and Parent Education (IJBPE)
