A partnership between Network Rail and the NHS aims to work in communities and at train stations to reduce suicide and promote help before a person reaches crisis. allonboard.png

All On Board aims to deliver a service to encourage recognition of the signs of poor mental health and contributing risk factors, improve confidence to intervene and to promote and signpost to local and national services that can support those who are experiencing poor mental health both at stations and in the wider community.

It currently has a mental health specialist lead nurse working nationally as well as nurses on Anglia and Merseyrail but All On Board’s ambition is to have mental health professionals in each region of our rail networks.

According to its website, work so far has involved:

  • Training for staff who work at train stations in Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention, which has extended into the community.
  • Working with British Transport Police and the NHS to put safety plans in place for individuals who are at risk of coming to the railway or have been involved in a previous incide.
  • Awareness/signposting events
  • Monthly focus groups
