A new base for the LGBTQ+ community in Wakefield has opened to offer a safe haven for people to socialise and take part in activities.
Our House, on Kirkgate, is the first sober space dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community in the city and is open from Thursday to Sunday each week.
It includes a café which serves speciality coffee from a local supplier as well as a shop featuring books and goods from queer artisans.
The centre, which officially launched in March, hosts regular meet ups of LGBTQ+ community groups and there are plans to start a film club and book club as well as special events like creative markets.
Venue hire and co-working is also available at the space.
Louie Stafford, managing director of Our House and Learnest CIC, encouraged people to get involved and support the new base.
He said: “Our House needs the LGBTQ+ and wider Wakefield communities to use the centre to ensure it can become a sustainable space for the future.
“All profits from sales in the cafe and shop, along with venue hire and any donations, are reinvested back into the centre, enabling more activities to be developed and to further improve the value of Our House to Wakefield.”
