Promoting Better LGBTQ+ Mental Health and Wellbeing in Calderdale and Beyond.

'Mind Your Head' is an LGBTQ+ focused suicide and self-harm prevention awareness campaign run by the Brunswick Centre and Happy Valley Pride*.

The campaign will target Gay, Bisexual and Trans young and middle-aged men, as well as the wider LGBTQ+ community, and will also incorporate issues resulting from lockdown and getting back to ‘normal’.

This supports the priority to eliminate suicide in groups disproportionally affected by poor emotional wellbeing, self-harm, and suicide (LGBT Health in Britain, 2018 Stonewall, Study of LGBTQ People’s Experiences During the Pandemic, 2020, University College London & Sussex University).

The campaign will run from late August to mid October 2021 and will include an online hub with LGBTQ+ suicide and self-harm tools and resources, online videos – highlighting lived experiences, and offering supportive hints and tips for self-care and support, a Mental Health First Aid Workshop, and a guided meditation session.

There will also be an online showcase event as part of the main Happy Valley Festival, with guest speaker Matthew Todd – award winning LGBTQ+ mental health writer.
