West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership are proud to announce the launch of 'Leaving Service', a new 30 min documentary film exploring mental health and suicide prevention with ex-military personnel.
The documentary aims to create awareness of the struggles faced by ex-military personnel — and the importance of inclusive community and mental health support.
The film, commissioned by the West Yorkshire Suicide Prevention programme and produced by Verd De Gris Arts, is available to watch on YouTube for free.
Jessica Parker, Project Manager at West Yorkshire Suicide Prevention, says the film is a vital resource for veterans and support providers across West Yorkshire and beyond.
"Leaving Service highlights the struggles our armed forces veterans can face with mental health, trauma, belonging and suicide. As part of our suicide prevention strategy, we are committed to making sure voices are heard and support is available for everyone."
Lenny Szrama, a veteran who served for 12 years in the British Army and features in the film, said “I hope that Leaving Service is viewed thousands of times and that it shines a light on trauma and isolation that can have a lifelong impact. I have survived suicide attempts, and with the right support, there is always hope and life after service”.
