Top Bradford Rugby League club Keighley Cougars tackled the topic of suicide awareness at their latest home game by showcasing the Check In With Your Mate campaign to supporters. Keighley Couger players wearing T shirts with Check In With Your Mate campaign on the back.jpg

The team dedicated their Sunday fixture against Barrow Raiders to the Partnership's suicide prevention campaign, in the run-up to World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th).

The Check In With Your Mate campaign encourages people to normalise conversations around mental health and suicide, particularly among men, where suicide risk is higher.

The campaign uses the webpage www.checkinwithyourmate.co.uk which directs people to the 'support in your area' section of this website, for local specaislist support services and where advice can be found on what to say if a friend might be struggling. Referees with a Check In With Your Mate sign.jpg

Leaflets providing information about the Check In With Your Mate campaign were handed out to the nearly 2,000-strong crowd and players could be seen warming up in T-shirts with the distinctive Check In With Your Mate logo on the back.

TV screens at the stadium also ran graphics to publicise the campaign.

The initiative was made possible thanks to funding from Bradford Council's public health team to the city's major sports clubs to promote the campaign.

Other clubs are also understood to be planning Check In With Your Mate-related activities to coincide with World Suicide Prevention Day.
