The ‘Place & Space’ project began following a need by Piece Hall workers for a quiet space for people who were struggling, especially around mental health.
Reverend Jane Finn initially offered the use of one of the side chapels of Halifax Minster as a designated space. Following funding from the Bishop’s Development Fund, and re-ordering, the community finally have a space designed to meet its requirements. From 1 November, ‘Place & Space’ is open to the community.
“It is hoped that the project will provide a much-needed quiet space for the use of our communities in and around the Minster.
“Place & Space has already been well used and has already saved one person’s life who arrived not believing life was worth living anymore, and after several days dropping in and using the creative space, left believing everything was worth living for.
“My hope is that it will be a welcoming space which people can drop in to, whenever they need, and feel that it is their space, whether that it a mental health need, or another need to find quiet in our busy world.” - Reverend Jane Finn, Halifax Minster
